The Hybrid III 50th human dummy is a crash test dummy widely used around the world for evaluating the safety of restraint systems during frontal crash tests. The initial design by General Motors was later succeeded by the Hybrid III 50th dummy, which was co-developed by Humanetics (following the merger of First Technology Safety Systems and Denton ATD) in collaboration with the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Biomechanics Committee and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Hybrid III 50th dummy is a legally defined test device under the U.S. Federal Regulations (Part 572 Subpart E) and European ECE standards. The dummy features high biofidelity and measurement capabilities. Recent revisions have improved the range of motion of the thighs, as well as the biofidelity of the ankles and feet.
