The selection of appropriate adhesives and adhesive joint structures, surface treatment, selection of construction methods, as well as theoretical explanations of necessary measures to enhance the reliability and durability of joints, including reliability analysis of joints and accelerated testing for various lifespan evaluations, in relation to the type of bonded materials, the structure of the joints, and the usage conditions such as load stress and environment. Additionally, the adhesive bonding and joining techniques for many dissimilar materials such as metals, CFRP, ceramics, and resins are introduced, classified by surface treatment methods and joining methods. The mechanisms of adhesive force development are explained in detail, showing that they do not differ from conventional adhesion. A classification of various troubles that arise in adhesion by their causes and their countermeasures are also introduced.
