What are the benefits of the "drain pump + hose installation" that does not require a slope? In traditional "PVC piping installation," a drainage method utilizing natural slope is employed. Designing and constructing piping routes that ensure the necessary slope for drainage requires specialized knowledge and extensive experience, making it a time-consuming process. There is also a concern about water leaks due to construction defects at the numerous adhesive joints. If there is a mistake in the design, it is not easy to change the piping route on-site. If time-consuming processes are required again, extending the construction period becomes unavoidable. In contrast, the "drain pump + hose installation" uses the power of the pump to discharge water without requiring a natural slope. The installation does not need a slope; it simply involves installing the pump and connecting an insulated hose to the drainage point. Since no specialized knowledge or experience is needed, the installation is straightforward. The process is minimal and does not take much time. Additionally, hose piping has no adhesive joints, significantly reducing the risk of construction defects. As mentioned earlier, even if there is a design mistake, the piping route can be flexibly changed on-site without affecting the construction schedule. The reason there are many repeat customers is due to these advantages.

As an example of conventional "PVC piping installation," when using a drain-up kit installed in ceiling cassette air conditioners, the drain piping is raised and sloped (natural slope) to send the drain to the drainage point. If the slope is not sufficient, drainage cannot occur, so it is necessary to design the piping route and install support hardware. This process includes many tasks that require knowledge and experience, such as marking out, anchor installation, and bonding PVC pipes. In contrast, "drain pump + hose installation" does not require a natural slope because the drain pump pressurizes and discharges the water. Since it uses hose piping, the piping route can be freely determined on-site. No knowledge or experience is needed for installation, and the number of steps is fewer, making it possible for anyone to perform the installation while also reducing the likelihood of installation defects. The installation time*1 is approximately 16 hours for PVC piping installation and about 3 hours for drain pump + hose piping. Labor costs*2 are 42,000 yen for PVC piping installation and 8,000 yen for drain pump + hose piping. Comparatively, both can achieve an 80% reduction (compared to our company). *1… A single worker installs a 20m long drain pipe. Design and trial operation time and costs are not included. *2… Calculated based on 21,000 yen for 8 hours of work per day.

In conventional drain piping installation, "PVC piping installation" is generally adopted. In contrast, our company's "drain pump" used in "drain pump + hose installation" has a completely different drainage method. Let's take a look at the differences in drainage methods. ■ PVC Piping Installation (Drain Up) This method involves lifting the drain water from the air conditioner and draining it using natural slope. It is essential to create a slope for drainage. ■ Drain Pump + Hose Installation This method lifts the drain from the air conditioner using a drain pump and pumps it out with the power of the pump. In this case, no slope is necessary. Furthermore, with a built-in backflow prevention valve in the pump, it can immediately send the water horizontally to the drainage destination after being lifted. This is a method that uses hose piping. ■ Points With drain pump + hose installation, drainage can be reliably achieved regardless of the piping slope. There is no need to design the drainage route in advance, allowing for on-site decisions, which provides the advantage of being able to install air conditioning equipment in the optimal location.

The 2024 issue is expected to lead to improvements and revisions in working hours, and the decrease in skilled workers due to population decline may result in situations where traditional labor design is no longer sufficient. Conventional PVC piping installation requires many processes that depend on the skills and experience of craftsmen, such as marking out, installing support hardware, and gluing, in order to achieve the natural slope for drainage, making it not feasible for just anyone to perform the work on-site. The installation of drain pumps and hoses does not require such skills or experience, allowing less experienced newcomers and foreign workers to perform tasks on-site. In other words, the installation of drain pumps and hoses can drastically reduce the number of work processes and the amount of labor needed.

When installing ceiling cassette air conditioners, wall-mounted air conditioners (room air conditioners), or concealed housing air conditioners, there may be cases where the ceiling space is narrow and it is difficult to achieve the proper slope for the piping. By using a drain pump and insulated hoses, it becomes possible to run the piping horizontally while avoiding obstacles. You can freely design the piping route without worrying about the slope, even for collective piping, existing piping (in the case of renovations), or vertical pipes (such as pipe shafts). [Issue] ■ In stores, hotel rooms, apartments, kitchens, warehouses, etc., the ceiling space is narrow and it is difficult to achieve the proper slope for the piping.

We would like to introduce a case study on drain pumps used in ceiling-mounted air conditioners for kitchens. In cases where "the pumps sold separately by the air conditioning manufacturer do not provide sufficient lift and pose concerns such as clogging," we can use a drain pump along with insulated hoses to raise the drain to the necessary height, and then further run it horizontally to the drainage point. By using a drain pump and insulated hoses, horizontal runs can be made while avoiding obstacles. This allows for free design of piping routes without worrying about slopes, including collective piping, existing piping (in the case of renovations), and vertical pipes (such as pipe shafts). [Issue] ■ There are concerns such as insufficient lift and clogging with the pumps sold separately by the air conditioning manufacturer.

Here is an introduction to a case study on the installation of wall-mounted air conditioners in apartment buildings. Owner A, who believes it is normal for every room to have an air conditioner, requested a renovation of their condominium from contractor B. However, they were informed by the contractor that there were rooms where installing an air conditioner would be difficult. This was due to the presence of rooms that did not face the outer wall, making it challenging to secure a route for the air conditioning drain piping. If priority was given to securing the drain piping route, it would either mean installing the piping in an undesirable location or giving up on the air conditioner installation altogether and relying on cool air from another room. This dilemma was successfully resolved using "drain pumps and hoses" for the drain piping. Using "drain pumps and hoses" allows for horizontal pumping even in narrow ceiling spaces, eliminating the need for a slope. Since it is piping, the routing is flexible. It is also possible to bypass obstacles such as ducts for drainage. By using "drain pumps and hoses," air conditioners can be installed exactly where desired. [Challenges] ■ Unable to install air conditioners in rooms that do not face the outer wall ■ Desire to install air conditioners in preferred locations ■ Narrow ceiling space does not allow for proper piping slope ■ Want to keep noise levels low

★What is the difference from a drain-up?… Unlike a drain-up pump that simply lifts the drain, it can lift and then horizontally pump the water all the way to the drainage destination. ★By using a drain pump… You can install drain piping simply by connecting insulated hoses from the drain pump outlet to the drainage destination, without worrying about the slope. Since you can take any piping route freely, there is no need to design the drainage path, allowing you to install air conditioning units anywhere. The installation is easy enough for anyone to do, significantly reducing labor costs. No adhesives are needed for pipe connections, and using insulated hoses eliminates the need for insulation work, reducing the risk of installation defects.

The drain from the air conditioning unit is received in the tank, where the water level is detected, and it operates in an intermittent mode that repeats the cycle of running and stopping. During normal operation, the following actions are repeated: 1. The drain pump receives the drain from the air conditioning unit, causing the water level in the tank to rise. 2. The float switch in the tank is pushed up by the drain, and when it reaches the operating water level, the pump starts operating and begins to drain. 3. As the water level in the tank drops, the float switch lowers, stopping the operation and halting the drainage. ★ What happens during abnormal conditions? If the pump fails or if the piping beyond the pump becomes clogged, a fault signal is output, and the air conditioning unit is stopped. Since no drain will occur from that point, it prevents water leakage from the air conditioning unit.

It has been common for drain piping of air conditioning units to have a slope of 1/50 to 1/100 for natural drainage. However, in recent years, in the design and construction of air conditioning systems for new buildings, as well as in renovation work for existing buildings, there have been locations where it is difficult to secure that slope, making careful installation of air conditioning units necessary. As long as there is space to install a "drain pump" that powerfully pumps the drain and an "insulated hose" that can flexibly adapt to any environment, it is possible to run horizontal piping to the drain outlet regardless of the slope. Please consider the slope-free piping installation made possible by the combination of a drain pump and insulated hose!

The drain piping for air conditioning units typically had a slope of 1/50 to 1/100 for natural drainage. However, in recent years, in the design and construction of air conditioning systems for newly built buildings, as well as in the renovation of existing buildings' air conditioning units, there have been locations where it is difficult to secure that slope, making it necessary to be cautious when installing air conditioning units. As long as there is space to install a "drain pump" that powerfully pumps the drain and an "insulated hose" that can flexibly adapt to any environment, it is possible to run horizontal piping to the drain outlet regardless of the slope. We have now launched a new specification of the insulated hose D12, which is currently well-received, with a length of 20 meters that is optimal for high lift and horizontal runs, called D12-20. Please consider the slope-free piping installation made possible by the combination of the drain pump and insulated hose!

The new product "Hose Stopper" allows for the independent installation and support of insulated hoses. It is perfectly compatible with hose piping construction using drain pumps! Until now, it was common to bundle the drain hose with the refrigerant piping when raising the drain hose, but with the Hose Stopper, it is possible to raise the drain hose independently. Please give it a try!
