Shimizu Steel Corporation's Tomakomai Steelworks operates within the Tomakomai Western Industrial Park and is an integrated plant for the manufacturing and rolling of small-sized rebar. In 1996, a new steelmaking plant using a direct current electric furnace began operations, equipped with advanced, high-efficiency production facilities. Additionally, from 1997, locally sourced natural gas was introduced. The company is actively engaged in environmental measures such as addressing global warming, and this vitality is reflected in its quality and safety management, leading to the renewal of numerous operational records.
