Walter AG (Japanese subsidiary: Walter Japan Co., Ltd.) will begin offering products and services under the new competence brand "Walter FMT." Walter FMT is our new solution brand for the processing of light metals, represented by aluminum. In addition to a product lineup centered around PCD tools, we will provide comprehensive services in light metal processing, including the examination of machining processes and the development of special tools. Aluminum is widely known to be used in the aerospace industry, but it is also adopted as a material for components in semiconductor manufacturing equipment due to its ease of surface treatment and low gas emission from the material. Recently, it has been increasingly adopted in the automotive industry, starting with EVs, for the purpose of weight reduction, and it is expected to be incorporated into a wide range of fields in the future for energy-saving purposes. We will support our customers' productivity improvements in light metal processing, including aluminum, which is expected to be increasingly utilized in the future, through Walter FMT.

Free membership registrationWalter has begun the release of the latest chip for threading processing, WSM37G. Our coating technology, Tiger-tec Gold, has already demonstrated significant achievements in turning, drilling, and milling applications. The newly announced WSM37G features a unique multilayer coating film structure with excellent wear resistance using TiAlN and outstanding heat resistance with alumina (Al2O3). The outermost layer is made of wear-resistant ZrN, which enhances the visibility of wear conditions. Tool life has also improved, with field tests showing up to a 2-fold increase in tool life, along with a significant reduction in the number of diameter corrections. Tiger-tec Gold WSM37G can be universally used for threading applications in blind holes and through holes for iron-based, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and high-hardness materials up to 55 HRC. Chip breakers can be selected from the general-purpose D67, which excels in tool life, and the D61, which features an anti-vibration cutting edge design that enables smooth processing even in long overhang machining.
