The history of bag making in Toyooka is long, with the "Yanagikago" (willow basket) submitted to the Shosoin during the Nara period still remaining. Kensuke Uemura, the founder of Masumi Bag Co., was convinced of the future of the bag industry and focused on leather products, replacing willow with leather to develop the "box-shaped bag" in Toyooka. This marked the beginning of our company. From the 1950s to the 1960s, our travel bags gained popularity among many tour conductors and business travelers, especially the original design "Masumi Line" travel bags, which began sales in the 1960s and were even exported overseas due to their popularity. "It’s boring to make something that already exists." This statement by the current Uemura Kenji is backed by the spirit of Masumi Bag Co., which has insisted on originality since its founding.
