Hydrogen flow rate and concentration under high humidity can now be measured simultaneously in real-time! In recent years, as the movement towards carbon neutrality accelerates worldwide, efforts to promote the use of hydrogen energy have become more active. Fuel cells, which generate electricity through the chemical reaction of hydrogen and oxygen in the air, are expected to achieve higher energy efficiency, improved durability, and further cost reductions, increasing the importance of research and development. It is challenging for fuel cells to react all the supplied hydrogen at once, and unreacted hydrogen is circulated for reuse, resulting in high-temperature and high-humidity conditions in the circulation section. Traditionally, it was not possible to measure flow rate and concentration simultaneously under high humidity, making it difficult to understand the state of hydrogen and optimize power generation control. Our company has been advancing the development of technology that can simultaneously measure hydrogen flow rate and concentration under high humidity by utilizing ultrasonic measurement technology cultivated in the development of gas meter devices. The use of this product is expected to accelerate research and development in fuel cells. Panasonic will support the development of hydrogen energy, including fuel cells and hydrogen production, to expand the introduction of renewable energy and contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society.
