Timegate Raman spectroscopy achieves extremely high temporal resolution and sensitivity compared to traditional continuous wave Raman spectroscopy by combining pulsed lasers with CMOS-SPAD (Single Photon Avalanche Diode) sensors. Utilizing the "avalanche phenomenon," which amplifies electrons from a single photon, this technology can detect even weak light, allowing for accurate capture of faint Raman scattering signals. It excels particularly in measurements under low light conditions and in high-speed reaction monitoring. The application of Timegate Raman technology enables highly accurate continuous monitoring of bioreactors. First, it provides realistic Raman spectra with fluorescence removed, expanding its applicability to cell cultures where traditional Raman techniques could not be used due to the influence of fluorescence signals. Second, this technology achieves the separation of signals from cells and culture media at the hardware level. Third, Timegate Raman technology also allows for monitoring changes in cell density. By detecting signals per pulse and separating the origins of the signals, information regarding changes in cell density can also be obtained.
