The new version of the international standard ISO/IEC 27701 concerning Privacy Information Management Systems (PIMS) has finally been released. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) announced the approval and publication of the new version on October 14, 2025. The most significant change in this revision is that ISO/IEC 27701 has been issued as an independent standard. On August 29, 2025, the revision work for ISO 9001 is progressing. The draft international standard (DIS) that has garnered attention has been published, and a 12-week voting and comment period has begun. The official release of the revised version is expected to be in late 2026, around October or November. Changes in the draft: The 2026 edition includes several significant revisions, many of which align more closely with the Harmonised Approach (HA) of other ISO management system standards. The main changes indicated in the draft are as follows: - Leadership and Commitment (Section 5.1) New requirements regarding the promotion of a quality culture and ethical behavior have been added, along with guidance on how to demonstrate these.
