Atmark Techno Co., Ltd. will add a new lineup to the "Armadillo-X1" series of Linux-compatible embedded CPU boards, doubling the memory and storage capacity. This time, Atmark Techno has added a new Armadillo-X1 to the lineup, anticipating scenarios where IoT functions are integrated into devices, with both memory and storage capacities doubled compared to the previous models (equipped with RAM of 1GB or 512MB and eMMC of 4GB). By enhancing memory and storage, it becomes even easier to use for edge computing applications, such as running inference models created with AI and machine learning in the cloud on IoT devices. The new Armadillo-X1 will be available through various Armadillo distributors starting December 16, 2019, in the following lineup. Detailed specifications will be published on the Armadillo website (https://armadillo.atmark-techno.com).

Free membership registrationAtmark Techno Co., Ltd. has developed the "Armadillo-610," a small, low-power CPU module with Linux pre-installed. It will be released in January 2020 as an embedded platform suitable for industrial equipment. The Armadillo-610 is an embedded platform under the "Armadillo" brand, which features a Linux embedded board equipped with an Arm processor. It is a sister product to the widely used "Armadillo-640," which is often adopted for basic communication devices and data loggers, and it implements an SoC (NXP Semiconductors' i.MX6ULL) with an Arm Cortex-A7 core. It incorporates the same functionality as the Armadillo-640 into a compact 50×50mm module, allowing for the expansion of interfaces such as USB, LAN, wireless LAN, and serial.

Free membership registrationAtmark Techno has developed the "Cactusphere," an IoT adapter compatible with Microsoft's integrated security solution for IoT devices, "Azure Sphere." Microsoft is promoting the "Guardian device for Azure Sphere," which allows everyone to easily utilize the security features of Azure Sphere. Cactusphere is the first domestic IoT adapter developed as a Guardian device for Azure Sphere, incorporating the MT3620 (Azure Sphere certified chip) into its main unit. By installing Cactusphere between existing devices and the internet connection environment, it enables easy and secure connection of existing devices to cloud services. Atmark Techno plans to release four types of models—analog input, contact input, contact output, and serial connection—by spring 2020. Additionally, prior to the release, a demo will be showcased at the Microsoft booth during "CEATEC 2019" held at Makuhari Messe.

Free membership registrationAtmark Techno, Seeed, Corestaff, NXP Japan, Taiyo Yuden, and Nordic Semiconductor jointly launched the sensor technology project "Degu" on March 15, 2019, which allows for the design of mesh network-compatible IoT systems with a DIY approach. The lack of standard technologies for device design and cloud connectivity in IoT systems has become a barrier to launching new IoT businesses. The Degu project aims to enable even inexperienced engineers to design IoT systems with a DIY mindset by providing development information such as circuit diagrams and basic software necessary for designing the mesh network-compatible IoT device "Degu Sensor" as open source on GitHub. The Degu Sensor is compatible with AWS IoT Core. By uploading pre-processed data on the Degu Sensor, sensing data can be immediately utilized in various services such as machine learning, deep learning, and BI on AWS. A starter kit will be available from April 10. Additionally, a custom order service for mass production is planned, allowing for a consistent realization of Degu specifications from PoC (proof of concept) to productization.
