It is made by sintering diamond rough onto a shank, and while it is simple, it is the most commonly used. For precise tasks such as internal grinding, small and sharply pointed rough diamonds are selected. For tasks with a lot of dressing, such as centerless grinding, larger rough diamonds with a round point are used. The direction of movement of the dressing tip is set to approach the center of the grinding wheel, and the crystal orientation of the rough diamond is considered to minimize wear. There is also a type that has a square pyramid polishing process applied to the tip, which is ideal for dressing grinding wheels that require sharp edges, such as for internal grinding.

Single-point diamond dressers come in various types such as "cone grinding," "pyramid grinding," and "no grinding," depending on whether they have diamond polishing or not, as well as different types based on the size of the diamond (carat) and the shape of the shank.
