A pin chuck is used to secure flat items (such as silicon wafers) by creating countless protrusions on the upper surface and forming a vacuum between them. This product is thin and large, measuring 30mm × 1300mm × 1300mm, but it requires a very high precision with a flatness tolerance of 0.01 to 0.03mm across the entire upper surface.

Free membership registrationA screw with a trapezoidal cross-section is called a trapezoidal screw. This three-start trapezoidal screw has its thread starting positions offset by 120 degrees. It is used in machine tools that require high forces and in machine parts that need speedy operation due to its large lead. This special screw machining was performed at high speed using a CNC lathe.

Free membership registrationInconel (a heat-resistant alloy) is widely used in high-temperature and high-pressure areas, such as parts of jet engines, but it is generally considered a difficult-to-machine material. We have successfully machined Inconel to achieve a cylindrical tolerance of 0.01 and a hole diameter tolerance of 0.005 for intersecting holes.

Free membership registrationHail processing is a machining method that involves moving a flat ground tool laterally to perform machining, primarily used for "seal surface processing." In conventional milling and other cutting processes using rotating tools, arc-shaped cutting marks (cutting patterns) are created, which can allow gas to infiltrate through the slight gaps caused by these marks, making it impossible to maintain a high vacuum state. This is prevented by hail processing.

Free membership registrationAdvancements in casting and molding technology have made it possible to efficiently produce parts without cutting processes. However, in small-scale production such as prototypes, machining without molds is essential due to cost and delivery time issues. This sample was machined from a rectangular bar to create a prototype of an aerodynamic component that requires smooth curves and precision. The accuracy achieved through machining cannot be obtained through casting or forging.

Free membership registrationThis sample was created as an example of the use of simultaneous 5-axis machining. Because the center is hollow, the tool is inserted through a narrow hole, and the center is machined and expanded using simultaneous 5-axis movement. Additionally, the sides of each hole are oriented towards the center of a sphere, resulting in a shape that cannot be achieved with conventional 3D machining. By using swarf machining, which cuts with the side of an end mill, we have successfully increased the surface roughness in a short amount of time.

Free membership registrationThe movable blades of a jet engine are typically attached to the disk one by one, taking thermal expansion into account. However, with advancements in design methods, a blade integrated with the disk, known as a Blade In Disk (BID), has emerged. This sample demonstrates the realization of such an integrated design through simultaneous five-axis machining.
