Utilizing the temperature adjustment function, we have been producing a wide variety of sheets for many years. By combining the advantage of not needing to pelletize the raw materials with our unique large-scale Banbury mixer (kneader), we have made it possible to remold used tile carpets from office and store floors, which are sorted and crushed only at the substrate by our partner companies, back into the same product. This contributes to reducing CO2 emissions by decreasing waste disposal, landfill, and incineration. Additionally, we are also engaged in sheet molding to reuse plastic products that were previously discarded for different applications. While we mix materials using the Banbury mixer, this equipment can crush and knead materials other than hard materials like metals. As a practical example, we have mixed used rubber gaskets from refrigerators with the substrate of tile carpets to create sheets, transforming used products that were previously disposed of into new forms. Thanks to the temperature adjustment function, our company can uniformly mold the entire thickness of the sheet. When heating the roll, we do so by passing a heat medium through pipes inside the roll. In the case of steam, the central part of the roll can maintain a sufficient temperature, but heat is lost at the pipe's entrance and exit, making it difficult for adequate heat to reach the edges of the sheet. As a result, the resin at the edges becomes less pliable, making it impossible to roll adequately, and the edges of the sheet end up thicker than the adjusted thickness. In contrast, with oil, the temperature of the entire roll can be maintained uniformly without losing heat. In a calendar forming machine, the thickness adjustment is made by widening or narrowing the gap between the rolls, allowing for arbitrary control of the amount of resin being rolled to achieve the desired thickness. The thickness tolerance varies depending on the material, but it is approximately 10%. If aiming for a thickness of 1.0mm, it would be around +0.1mm. In the T-die method (extrusion molding), the thickness is managed by adjusting each screw at the outlet, resulting in higher thickness precision compared to calendar forming, but it requires more effort and time. Calendar molding refers to the sheet and film manufacturing machine. It rolls rubber or plastic into sheets using two rotating cylinders (rolls). Resin is fed between heated rolls, melted while being kneaded, and then stretched thinly into sheet form as it passes through the rolls. A key feature is that a wide variety of sheet molding can be achieved with the same equipment. Originally, calendar molding machines were used in paper production, where paper was continuously passed between rolls to give the surface a gloss.
