When the back pressure exceeds the set pressure, the load force on the diaphragm compresses the spring, causing the stem to function in an open state from the seat. As the flow increases and the back pressure is discharged, the forces of the spring and diaphragm are relieved, allowing the stem to return to its normally closed position.
