Construction example: Curb anti-slip for pedestrian vehicle entrances (Slip Rate Sigma 01 SR method)

In September 2009, anti-slip processing was carried out using Slip Rate Sigma 01 on the curb of the pedestrian vehicle entrance in Haruki Asahi-cho, Kishiwada City, Osaka Prefecture. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism issued a notice nationwide to ensure the safety of visually impaired individuals, stating that a 5 cm height difference should be established at vehicle entrances so that pedestrians can recognize the difference between pedestrian entrances and vehicle entrances using canes or similar tools. Additionally, due to amendments to the Road Traffic Act, bicycles are now required to travel on the roadway, leading to an increase in slip and fall accidents when entering sidewalks. The work carried out this time was at the curb of the pedestrian vehicle entrance in front of an automobile repair shop. This location had experienced up to seven bicycle falls in a single day. Since the falls occurred in front of the shop, the owner became concerned that it might reflect poorly on their business and consulted the city hall, which led to the implementation of the work. The manager indicated that the processing should be strong enough to withstand trucks and other vehicles entering and exiting, but only needed to be applied to the areas where bicycle tires might slip when entering. Therefore, anti-slip processing was carried out using Slip Rate Sigma 01.
