Damage: One fatality, four injuries, as well as flooding in homes and basements due to river overflow and landslides. - July 2020: Oil Spill Incident off the Southeastern Coast of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean [Overview] Location: Shallow waters off the southeastern coast of Mauritius Summary: A Japanese cargo ship ran aground in shallow waters off the southeastern coast of Mauritius, causing fuel oil to leak due to hull buckling and other issues. Damage: No human casualties reported. It is estimated that up to 2,000 tons of fuel oil leaked. The SDGs are goals established to address not only these environmental issues but also various problems such as poverty and inequality, with the aim of uniting the world in tackling them. This white paper will primarily focus on the initiatives and key points of the SDGs related to environmental issues.
