LC-MS/MS method suitable for the analysis of ultra-short and short-chain PFAS in water (Restec Corporation)

PFAS are widely present in the environment and it has become very important to monitor the types and quantities of ultra-short-chain PFAS found in various water sources, such as groundwater, seawater, and industrial water, as well as the extent of human exposure to them. However, small and highly polar compounds with carbon chain lengths of less than C4 (ultra-short-chain PFAS) are currently difficult to analyze using standard PFAS analytical methods based on reverse-phase liquid chromatography (RPLC). In this study, we developed an LC-MS/MS analytical method that can accurately and reliably quantify ultra-short-chain PFAS (C1 to C4) in drinking water and non-drinking water. Additionally, to simplify the analytical process and avoid contamination risks during the sample pretreatment process, we adopted a direct injection workflow.
