Refinement of Rietveld by CrystalDiffract
In neutron diffraction and X-ray diffraction of powder samples, patterns characterized by reflections (intensity peaks) at specific positions are obtained, and the height, width, and position of these reflections can be used to determine many features of the crystal structure. The Rietveld method is a technique that refines the theoretical profile of the crystal structure using the least squares method until it matches the measured data. This method represents a significant advancement in the diffraction analysis of powder samples because it can reliably handle strongly overlapping reflections; however, the success of this refinement is directly influenced by the quality of the data, the quality of the model (including the initial approximations), and the experience of the user. In this webinar, we will explain a series of procedures for Rietveld refinement using CrystalDiffract and the various benefits obtained in conjunction with CrystalMaker.
