Tokyo, January 8, 2026 - (JCN Newswire) - In 2025, the number of malicious files detected by Kaspersky's detection system averaged 500,000 per day, marking a 7% increase compared to the previous year. Certain types of threats have seen a global rise, with detections of password stealers (malware that steals account information) surging by 59% compared to 2024, detections of spyware increasing by 51%, and detections of backdoors rising by 6%.
These findings are presented in the Kaspersky Security Bulletin series, which reflects on key cybersecurity trends over the past year.
Cyber attacks continue to predominantly target Windows. Throughout 2025, 48% of Windows users were targeted by various types of threats, while this figure was only 29% for Mac users.
