A new 20kW high-output fiber laser cutting machine has been introduced. It supports cutting steel plates up to 40mm thick, achieving increased productivity and CO₂ reduction.
At Kumagai Special Steel Co., Ltd., we have newly introduced a 20kW high-output fiber laser cutting machine with the aim of improving processing capabilities and production efficiency. The previously used 8kW laser cutting machine primarily targeted steel plate cutting up to about 25mm thick, but the newly introduced 20kW laser can handle steel plates up to 40mm thick, significantly enhancing our capability for thick plate processing.
Fiber laser cutting machines do not require the replacement of optical mirrors or discharge tubes compared to CO₂ lasers, which leads to a reduction in running costs. Additionally, the increase in output power is expected to improve cutting speed, thereby shortening cutting time and enhancing processing capacity.
Furthermore, laser cutting is a processing method that does not produce direct CO₂ emissions, contributing not only to increased productivity but also to reduced environmental impact. The equipment we have introduced will achieve stable cutting quality in new thickness ranges.
At Kumagai Special Steel, we will leverage this equipment to further strengthen our cutting capabilities for special steel thick plates, particularly high-tensile steel WEL-TEN and abrasion-resistant steel plates ABREX. We will also flexibly respond to small lot processing of various types and continue to invest in equipment and improve our technical capabilities as a processing partner that supports our customers' manufacturing.
