A new CMT magnetic tape device that can be connected to both laptops and servers via USB has been released.

The conventional 3480/3490 CMT devices were limited to channel interface connections in mainframe environments and SCSI interface connections in open system environments. As the production of CMT devices by various companies has ended, changes in specifications such as the lack of SCSI support for server products have made it increasingly difficult to secure the traditional connection interfaces.
In response to requests from many users to continue CMT operations, Unitex has developed a USB 2.0 interface. This will enable the connection of CMT devices to PCs and servers that no longer support SCSI devices. By adding the "UMT-F490EWS-USB/UMT-490EWS-ACL-USB" to the existing product line of CMT devices with traditional mainframe channel (ESCON/OCLINK) connections and SCSI connections, we will further accommodate connections to a wider variety of system environments and extend the longevity of CMT operations.
