[Tokyo] Industrial water to be abolished in the future! Industrial water supply may increase fivefold when converted to potable water supply.

Tokyo has published a report from an expert committee regarding the industrial water supply system, which it has been considering abolishing, concluding that it should be phased out.
The industrial water supply began to be provided gradually from 1964. However, after 50 years of supply, the facilities have deteriorated, and the cost of updating them is estimated to be about 232.8 billion yen.
On the other hand, demand has also been declining. In the fiscal year 2016, the average daily water volume dropped to about 20,000 cubic meters, which is 1/17 of the peak level. For these reasons, it seems that the decision was made to have users switch to using the water supply system. However, switching to the water supply system would result in an average increase in costs to about five times the current industrial water rates, so a transition period of 4 to 8 years will be established to mitigate the impact.
【Customers using industrial water in the Kanto area】
Would you consider drilling a well on your own premises and owning water treatment facilities such as private water systems as a measure against future industrial water price increases?
【Customers using industrial water outside the Kanto area】
It is expected that municipalities facing continued deficits will similarly consider abolishing their industrial water supply systems. Please consider introducing private water systems even outside the Kanto area.
