Ocean Photonics Co., Ltd. begins handling the world's blackest material "Vantablack."

Ocean Photonics Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinjuku, Tokyo, Representative: Shingo Funaki) has signed a dealership agreement with Surrey Nanosystems Ltd. in the UK and has begun selling their ultra-low reflectivity material, VantablackR.
Vantablack is a black coating that is the darkest material in the world. With a reflectivity of just 0.036%, it reflects almost no light, making objects coated with it appear two-dimensional to the human eye. Developed as part of a blackbody calibration system for satellites, Vantablack is expected to have a wide range of applications as a coating material, leveraging its unique physical and optical properties for uses from satellite-mounted equipment to artworks.
Since Vantablack is coated using a vacuum deposition method, there are limitations regarding materials, shapes, and sizes; however, by using the spray version, Vantablack S-VIS (with a reflectivity of 0.2%), it becomes possible to coat variously shaped enclosures.
