Showa Denko decides to implement supply chain resilience investment for its liquefied carbon dioxide gas business.
Tokyo, January 19, 2022 - (JCN Newswire) - Showa Denko Gas Products (SGP), a consolidated subsidiary of Showa Denko, has decided to enhance the production and storage capacity of liquefied carbon dioxide and dry ice at its Kawasaki plant, strengthening its supply chain. The total investment for this plan is expected to be approximately 3 billion yen, which will increase SGP's production capacity of liquefied carbon dioxide by about 30,000 tons per year and storage capacity by about 2,000 tons. Construction is set to begin in April 2022, with operations aimed to start by the end of 2023.
This initiative has been selected as a project eligible for the "Domestic Investment Promotion Subsidy for Supply Chain Measures" by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
At the SGP Kawasaki plant, carbon dioxide generated during the chemical recycling of used plastics, conducted at the SDK Kawasaki facility, is utilized as a raw material for carbonated products. Due to the increasing demand for recycling, KPR is expected to maintain a stable and high operating rate in the future. Therefore, SGP has decided to further utilize KPR as a stable source of carbon dioxide supply and to strengthen its supply system to customers by establishing new liquefied carbon dioxide production facilities and increasing storage tank capacity.
