This is an experimental kit for polymer artificial muscles (IPMC). For experiments using IPMC as an actuator and as an energy harvester!
By applying a voltage of 2-4V to the IPMC, ions within the IPMC are transported (Poisson-Nernst-Planck effect), resulting in movement of approximately 10-20mm at the tip (actuator mode). The IPMC weighs about 0.1mg, and the maximum force during tip movement (the blocking force when one side is fixed) is about 4mgf. The IPMC also responds to sine waves, square waves, triangular waves, and sawtooth waves. Conversely, by mechanically bending the IPMC, ions are transported, and it outputs a voltage of 2-4mV (sensor/energy harvesting mode). In a cantilever beam setup, the force density of the IPMC exceeds 40mgf/gm relative to its weight. The IPMC exhibits remarkable movement in air, polar liquid environments, and underwater. The main users are high school and university teachers or students, researchers from companies, and researchers from public research institutions. Key applications include research and development of ion exchange polymer metal composites (IPMC) for nano-sensors, nano-actuators, polymer sensors, polymer transducers, energy harvesting, and renewable energy.
