Surface property measurements of pharmaceutical raw materials, powders, thin films, and fibers with unprecedented high sensitivity!
The diversifying powder technology, particularly solid pharmaceutical raw materials, is pressing the need for a wide range of high-precision chemical property measurement techniques regarding components and structures. The IGC inverse gas chromatography has been developed as a surface property measurement technique using gas for the study of surface properties of fine particles, thin films, and fiber materials. SEA measures the physicochemical properties of pharmaceutical materials, specifically the surface free energy of powders and acidic/basic parameters, which are crucial factors affecting many substances' products and manufacturing processes, with high sensitivity that was previously impossible with conventional methods. SEA has been developed as a practical device through collaborative research with pharmaceutical research institutions and companies, based on techniques that some researchers have traditionally spent time and effort on, and it performs sample measurements in a set humidity environment completely automatically from sample injection to data processing.

basic information
【Measurement Principle】 This device is an inverse version of the conventional gas chromatograph's mobile and stationary phases. It fills a glass linear column with solid materials (powder, fibers, thin films, etc.) that serve as the measurement target. A probe gas with known properties (non-polar solvents, alkanes, polar solvents) is injected into the column, and from the behavior of the retention times of the passing probe gas, the surface free energy and acidic/basic parameters are calculated. 【Software】 The measurement conditions can be easily set, and data analysis can be performed seamlessly. The measurement results can be generated as reports in PDF format. 【Options】 Improvement of measurement temperature range with oven option: 20 to 600°C (standard up to 150°C) Humidity control for measurements with humidity option: 0 to 95% RH 【Measurement Items】 Surface free energy Dispersion component of surface free energy Surface free energy during desorption Thermodynamic properties Surface free energy distribution Adsorption free energy due to acid-base interactions Acid-base parameters Adsorption heat Glass transition temperature Solubility BET specific surface area Isotherm
