In 1983, we began the manufacturing and development of our own long-distance microscope. That same year, the long-distance microscope was awarded as the most valuable new innovative product of the year.
The Quester long-distance microscope was developed in response to strong demands from researchers and production sites for powerful imaging means for measurements, inspections, monitoring, and alignment using long-distance microscopes, such as "real-time observation and measurement of fine dynamic processes in experiments conducted in a vacuum chamber," "microscopic observation of samples in harmful environments," and "precision inspection online." The long-distance microscope optical system allows for the observation system to be moved outside of the often cluttered work area. Furthermore, the Quester long-distance microscope enables the acquisition of high-magnification and high-resolution images based on high-level requirements.

basic information
The Questar long-distance microscope employs a lens-mirror compound optical system known as the Maksutov-Cassegrain. In this configuration, incoming light is reflected from a meniscus-shaped collector lens to the primary mirror, then from the primary mirror to the secondary mirror, which is coated on the back side of the collector lens, and finally focused through the central aperture of the primary mirror to the rear. This design is the first optical configuration commercialized by Questar in the field of telescopes, where it is essential to form star images correctly as point sources. The Maksutov-Cassegrain optical system allows the Questar long-distance microscope to fold a long focal length exceeding 1 meter into a tube length of less than 30 cm. Simultaneously, aberrations are corrected by the front lens system (the collector lens and the secondary mirror coated on its back) placed near the center of curvature of the primary mirror. Although the appearance of the Questar long-distance microscope looks almost the same, individual characteristics can be seen in the shape of the collector lens. Thanks to Questar's years of accumulated know-how in the Maksutov-Cassegrain design, each model achieves the best optical design for its respective working distance.

Applications/Examples of results
Material Testing The long-distance microscope is most frequently used in the field of monitoring and measuring the properties of materials during dynamic or static inspections. Long-distance microscopes and systems that incorporate them are ideal devices for the purpose of extracting test data in real-time. Due to their long working distance, they facilitate easy handling of samples and are suitable for detailed observation of high-temperature bodies and unpolished rough surfaces. Vibration Protection of the Space Shuttle When the Space Shuttle first returned from space, it became clear that the tiles used to protect the hull from intense heating needed to be modified. To solve this problem, NASA researchers needed to address the dynamics of material failure and used long-distance microscopes to resolve issues by examining sample surfaces under simulated conditions of atmospheric re-entry. Metal Measurement in Paint Automobile companies hoped to develop a method for aligning particles in metallic paint during the painting process to achieve uniform coloring. Until a suitable technology was developed, high-speed video cameras were attached to long-distance microscopes to observe changes in the alignment of particles during the painting process due to environmental variations.
