basic information
Sound is produced by striking an object to create vibrations, but generating high frequencies like ultrasound requires special methods. By inserting a transducer (piezoelectric ceramics) between electrodes and applying voltage, the transducer expands and contracts repeatedly, generating ultrasound. Conversely, applying pressure to this transducer (piezoelectric ceramics) generates voltage between the two poles. This phenomenon is known as the piezoelectric effect, and this transducer (piezoelectric ceramics) is referred to as an electroacoustic conversion element. Piezoelectric ceramics are polycrystalline ceramics made by sintering high-purity powders (such as titanium oxide and barium oxide) at high temperatures. By undergoing polarization treatment, they acquire piezoelectric properties similar to those of single crystals like quartz. These piezoelectric ceramics hold infinite potential as electronics and ultrasonic sensors.
