Under various experimental conditions, the net membrane permeability of drugs and toxins can be measured.
The internal liquid in each cell was completely mixed by the rotation of the stirrer. The thickness of the stagnant boundary layer formed on the membrane surface has been clarified under various stirring conditions, resulting in the net membrane permeation rate. The stirring drive device is a magnetic stirrer capable of continuous operation for long periods, which can simultaneously operate three sets of PERMCELL and can vary the stirring rotation speed over a wide range (approximately 500 rpm to 2000 rpm) depending on the type of membrane. There are two types of membrane mounting parts: one for flat membranes and one for spherical membranes, and in addition to the closed-type sample port stopper, a flow-type stopper is also available.

basic information
■ In order to enable transmission experiments not only with flat membranes but also with spherical membranes, we have developed two types of cells for flat and spherical membranes. These can be used not only for synthetic membranes and skin but also for transmission experiments involving fruit peels, corneas, and more. ■ There are two sizes available (membrane area of approximately 5 cm² with a volume of 55 ml, and a membrane area of 0.6 cm² with a volume of 5 ml), allowing for selection based on the size of the membrane. ■ The temperatures on both the donor and receptor sides can be independently controlled via external jackets, enabling not only isothermal experiments but also a wide range of non-isothermal membrane transmission experiments using two circulating thermostats. ■ The upper sample section of the cell can use both closed-type stoppers and flow-type stoppers depending on the purpose, allowing for flow-through (circulation system) transmission experiments when combined with an external pump. ■ The rotation speed of the magnetic stirrer can be controlled arbitrarily within the range of 500 rpm to 2000 rpm. The stirring condition within the cell is extremely good, and in most aqueous solution experiments, the influence of the stagnant boundary layer can be ignored, allowing for direct measurement of the net membrane transmission rate.

In 1907, we established a private business, a scientific glass processing plant, in the Kita Ward of Osaka City. Subsequently, in 1957, we reorganized into a corporation in line with the development of the business, becoming what is now Fuji Rika Kogyo Co., Ltd. Our main operations have been the production of glass products and the sale of scientific instrument manufacturer products. For over 100 years, we have steadily progressed alongside scientific glass and scientific instruments. However, we will cease operations at the end of June 2024 and will begin operations in July under MIZUKEN Co., Ltd. (formerly the Comprehensive Water Research Institute).
