The George E. Brown Jr. Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEES) connects 14 earthquake research facilities across the United States through NEEShub, a user-demand-driven cyber infrastructure. A key challenge for NEES is the efficient maintenance and operation of mechanical testing and simulation testing systems used at member institutions. Efficient routine maintenance and calibration of testing systems are essential to consistently maintain high levels of testing accuracy and system uptime. In 2005, MTS launched a comprehensive support program for member institutions that utilize MTS technology for seismic testing and simulation. The MTS Hydraulix program regularly monitors the cleanliness of the hydraulic fluid in testing systems as a means to prevent significant and costly mechanical issues in the future.
