Quantifying the deterioration of visibility (horizontal visibility) due to fog and blizzards! Useful for accident prevention measures due to visibility deterioration and evaluation of optical sensors!
This is a sensor that quantifies "visibility," which refers to how far ahead one can see. It can quantitatively measure visibility deterioration caused by fog, rain, and snow, enabling the following applications: - Issuing alerts for dangers due to visibility impairment - Adjusting the brightness of optical devices such as road signs - Evaluating optical equipment used outdoors, such as LiDAR. We offer various types depending on the application: - Standard model: Measures general visibility impairment (calculates visibility values every 30 seconds) - 10K model: Measures when visibility is better than standard - FAST model: Measures rapid visibility deterioration during blizzards, etc. (calculates visibility values every second) - In-vehicle model: Measures visibility while driving for the evaluation of devices like LiDAR.

basic information
By detecting the backscattered light from fog particles or snow present near the sensor, it outputs the visibility (in meters). The installation environment is robustly designed to accommodate a wide range from -20 to +50°C, assuming outdoor installation for 24-hour monitoring. The data is output as text data via RS-232C, allowing for remote collection in combination with a logger (for example, via the internet). The measurement method involves irradiating near-infrared LEDs into the space and detecting the backscattered light from scattering particles (fog particles) present near the sensor. Therefore, it is assumed that there are no obstacles near the sensor. Dimensions: Width 68 x Depth 34 x Height 45 mm Weight: Approximately 170g

Applications/Examples of results
- Brightness adjustment of road information boards and lighting according to visibility - Detection of blizzards and whiteouts - Evaluation of optical devices such as LiDAR - Determination of visibility conditions on the road - Remote monitoring of visibility near mountainous areas - Reference for testing using fog in experiments
Detailed information
-
Fog sensor measurement principle: Near-infrared LED or laser (Safety Class 3R) is irradiated, and the backscattered light caused by particles in the atmosphere is measured by the sensor to calculate visibility information and weather information.
