What is film formation? The process of applying a thin film to the surface of a substrate material is called "film formation." At Geomatec, we perform nano-level film formation in a vacuum, which we refer to as "vacuum film formation." By forming a film, we can impart characteristics that were not originally present in the substrate, such as conducting electricity, separating light into three primary colors, and generating heat. What is a thin film? A thin film is created by forming and processing a metal or non-metal film on a substrate material (such as glass or plastic) at the nano scale. This allows us to add new "added value" in terms of electrical, optical, mechanical, and other properties that the original material did not possess.
