Kanak processing is a surface hardening treatment method that can significantly improve the lifespan of molds by increasing the surface hardness of SUS (stainless steel) and SKD (alloy steel) to levels comparable to that of cemented carbide. It does not generate a white layer (iron nitride), and it can produce a uniform hardened layer even in complex shapes and deep holes. It is suitable for hardening treatment of stainless steel, with extremely minimal deformation due to warping, expansion, and dimensional changes. The depth of the diffusion layer can also be controlled. The surface roughness after treatment is very low, and there is no observed decrease in toughness due to repeated treatments, allowing for welding operations to be performed without issues after treatment.
