The NL-type transformer has a circular cross-section for the iron core and a magnetic path direction that is also arc-shaped. Additionally, since the coil is wound inward, the leakage flux is extremely low, preventing interference with nearby equipment. Due to the minimal leakage magnetic flux, the utilization rate of the alternating magnetic flux is high, allowing for miniaturization and reduced excitation current.

By winding the wire in a cylindrical shape, the total length of the wire becomes the shortest, which reduces weight and lowers the direct current resistance (DCΩ), resulting in higher efficiency. Additionally, it allows for a greater number of input and output circuits. Furthermore, compared to R-core transformers, the inrush current is smaller, and the inter-layer insulation voltage can be increased.
