It has cation exchange capacity and can intercalate various ions between the layers.
"Smecton" is a synthetic inorganic polymer with a saponite structure developed by Kunimine Industries Co., Ltd. using proprietary technology. Traditionally, minerals referred to as smectite are known as "clay with a thousand uses" and are utilized in a wide range of fields across various industries, as well as in our everyday lives. However, because smectite is produced from natural clay, it is difficult to completely remove impurities from the soil, which limits its applications. Therefore, to enable its use in even more applications, research was conducted on the synthesis of pure chemical raw materials, resulting in the creation of "Smecton." [Features] - When dispersed in water, it achieves higher viscosity compared to natural clay minerals and other synthetic clay minerals, with notable thixotropic properties. - The average particle size of the product powder is approximately 20 μm, but when dispersed in water, it swells and disperses to as fine as about 0.02 μm (Kunipia 0.1–0.5 μm). - It possesses cation exchange capacity (CEC) and can intercalate various ions between its layers.
