"Smecton" is a synthetic inorganic polymer with a saponite structure developed by Kunimine Industries Co., Ltd. using proprietary technology. Traditionally, minerals referred to as smectite are known as "clay with a thousand uses" and are utilized in a wide range of fields across various industries, as well as in our everyday lives. However, because smectite is produced from natural clay, it is difficult to completely remove impurities from the soil, which limits its applications. Therefore, to enable its use in even more applications, research was conducted on the synthesis of pure chemical raw materials, resulting in the creation of "Smecton."
