Wood injected with a glassy substance known as colloidal glass becomes hydrophobic as the hydroxyl groups in the wood bond with the good components in the water and the glassy substance. As a result, it becomes modified wood that excels in decay resistance, termite resistance, and dimensional stability. ○ By penetrating a multi-dispersed colloidal glass solution into wood, spherical colloidal glass is formed in the cell layers of the wood (near the S2 layer), binding with the hydroxyl groups of cellulose, which prevents the components of the cell wall from absorbing water. ○ By elevating the hydroxyl groups (based on the same theory as acetylation), the wood itself becomes hydrophobic, resulting in excellent paintability. ○ Furthermore, by applying liquid glass treatment to the surface, it prevents discoloration of the wood for over 10 years* (*in vertical conditions).
