Magnesium chloride is a component found in seawater. It dissolves easily in water and is an effective freezing prevention agent even at low temperatures. It can be used by hand or with a spreading vehicle. It melts snow and ice through the effects of reaction heat and freezing point depression. When used for snow melting, several times the amount used for freezing prevention will be necessary. Additionally, due to its hygroscopic (liquefying) properties and water retention capability, it can be used to prevent the scattering of dust.
