Repairing a shaft that cannot be welded with titanium putty!
There was an unusual noise coming from the shaft of the mill (crusher) used at the quarry, so I disassembled it for inspection and found wear on the contact surface with the inner ring of the bearing. Issues: 1. Due to the structure incorporating wiring cables inside the shaft, repair methods that involve heat, such as thermal spraying or welding, cannot be used. 2. General-purpose putties like epoxy have durability issues. 3. Finishing lathe machining to the specified shaft dimensions is necessary. 4. The production line cannot be stopped for long periods, so repairs must be completed in a short time.

basic information
A repair method using titanium putty with excellent wear resistance and corrosion resistance has been proposed. Points: 1. It contains titanium powder, providing outstanding wear resistance. 2. It does not require heat treatment, eliminating concerns about thermal distortion and deformation. 3. The curing time is short (working time: 20 minutes at 25°C; coating curing time: 4 hours at 25°C), and it can be machined after curing. Since the temperature during construction was also high this time, a curing time of 2 hours was taken before performing lathe machining. 4. To improve adhesion, screw threading will be applied to the substrate using a lathe this time.
