Reduction of maintenance frequency, increased longevity, and improved sealing performance with a special mechanical seal.
At a stone quarry factory with washing equipment, the use of asbestos in the gland packing of slurry pumps has been prohibited, and it has been changed to non-asbestos materials (Note 1). Previously, there were no issues for about three months, but now leaks occur in about a week, necessitating replacement, which has caused problems due to the frequency of pump leaks and maintenance. 1. The packing replacement work takes about an hour for a weekly replacement. 2. Slurry leaks also adhere to the bearings near the packing, requiring the pump to be disassembled every six months and taking half a day for replacement. 3. Slurry leaks onto the surrounding floor, necessitating daily cleaning. We have received a request to reduce these tasks as much as possible.

basic information
There are limitations with non-asbestos gland packing, and I believe that changing manufacturers will not significantly extend the lifespan. Therefore, I considered mechanical seals that meet the following conditions: 1. Particularly strong against slurries. 2. Can be installed without any modifications to the pump. 3. Extends lifespan and allows for easy replacement of wear parts.
