Variable Beam Splitter/Attenuator for High-Power Lasers
VBSA Variable Beam Splitter/Attenuator for High Power Lasers
It can be used with any laser wavelength and any polarization.
Spectral Optics, a division of Spectral Products, has developed and released a completely new and innovative type of high-power laser application, a broadband variable beam splitter/attenuator (VBSA). The VBSA can vary the reflection/transmission (R/T) split ratio over a very wide range of wavelengths from infrared to ultraviolet, specifically from 10.6 µm to 193 nm. The innovative VBSA is available in both uncoated and AR-coated versions and can be used with any laser wavelength and any polarization. The Spectral Optics high-power variable beam splitter/attenuator (VBSA) includes uncoated products for use in extreme high-power laser applications at both the input and output apertures. Due to the innovative new design of the VBSA, the uncoated version can be used up to the bulk laser damage threshold of the internal substrate material. As a result, this very high damage threshold makes it a unique product that can be used for almost all high-power lasers operating from FIR wavelengths to UV.

basic information
Spectral Optics' high-power variable beam splitter/attenuator (VBSA) can continuously transmit from 20% to 80% transmission (from a minimum of ~0% transmission to ~90% T) at UV-FIR wavelengths, or with products using anti-reflective (AR) coatings, it can control transmission up to > 99% T. In this case, it will be up to the input power until the damage threshold of the AR coating. The effective diameter (C/A) of Spectral Optics' standard VBSA ranges from a standard diameter of ¼ inch to ½ inch. Custom options are available with a maximum effective diameter of up to 2 inches.
