Super calendars produce higher paper gloss and smoothness with higher nip pressure. For regular printing paper and art paper, a nip pressure of about 10 nip is applied. During this process, the thickness of the paper decreases. If you want to minimize the thickness of the paper as much as possible, a soft calendar is used. A soft calendar raises the roller temperature instead of reducing the nip pressure. This allows the nip pressure to be reduced to one-fifth, thereby minimizing changes in paper thickness.
