The CALUX Assay (Chemically Activated Luciferase Expression) is a technology (bioassay method) developed by the American company XDS (Xenobiotic Detection Systems International, Inc.) that obtained a patent in the United States in December 1998. It is a simple and rapid measurement method for the detection of dioxins (PCDDs, PCDFs, DL-PCBs). Utilizing the luminescence principle of fireflies, CALUX is a faster, cheaper, and more sensitive and high-performance testing method compared to traditional high-resolution gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.

Applications/Examples of results
As an example, at waste incineration facilities, we receive over 2,000 requests from government agencies and private companies in Japan for annual statutory inspections, inspections of residues during dismantling, evaluations during facility renovations, screening (dispersion surveys) around the source, and impact studies on plants, fish, and shellfish, among others.
