A traditional wooden construction technique that has been passed down in Japan for a long time. It is a method of joining two boards without using nails, by cutting a bowtie-shaped groove in the overlapping parts and driving a wedge of the same shape into it to secure the boards. The shape of this wedge is the Chikiri mark.
