This is a drainage material that can be used for various soft ground improvement projects such as river, ship route, port reclamation areas, and residential land development sites.
A large amount of dredged clay that has accumulated on the seabed is being discharged to maintain rivers, shipping routes, and ports. The discharged dredged clay is used for land reclamation in coastal areas, but it forms extremely soft ground, taking a very long time to complete self-weight consolidation. In Osaka Bay, when constructing artificial islands with soft clay of high water content, it is common to pre-install sand drain methods in the underlying alluvial clay layer. In recent years, in addition to measures against subsidence of alluvial clay ground, methods have been adopted to promote self-weight consolidation of dredged clay by driving PD materials to penetrate into the sand mat immediately after dredging, and by pumping groundwater using sand drain pumps, utilizing the vertical drain effect from the combination of groundwater lowering methods and PD materials. The principle of this method is that by pumping groundwater from the sand layer, it reduces the water pressure within the plastic board drain and, consequently, within the dredged clay ground, thereby increasing the effective stress within the dredged clay ground.
