When the high-voltage power supply is OFF, smoke passes through the container and comes out from the fan. When the high-voltage power supply is turned ON and high voltage is applied to the electrodes inside the container, corona discharge begins from the electrodes, and the charged smoke (components) adheres to the walls of the container, preventing the smoke from coming out.
