The main sources of odors in the casting process are the odors from cores and low-pressure casting machines. ★Key Points of Odor Control Measures★ 1. Odor Components: Phenols, aldehyde-type odors (exhaust odors from the casting process) 2. Gas Characteristics: High humidity, presence of dust (smoke) 3. Odors have spread to a wide residential area 4. Since exhaust is being released from multiple ventilation fans rather than local exhaust, it is unclear where to implement measures 5. Desire to keep costs as low as possible In foundries, phenolic and aldehyde-type odors are generated along with smoke from the molds during the casting process. Complaints regarding these odor substances have arisen at a certain foundry. However, due to the large size of the factory building and the leakage of odors from multiple ventilation outlets rather than local exhaust, there was a request for consultation on how to address the issue. ●Step 1: Odor Control Consultation During the odor control consultation, we investigated the factory and its surroundings to confirm the current odor generation and dispersion situation. As a result, it was found that odors generated in the factory were dispersing up to approximately 600 meters away. Additionally, since the current method of odor emission was through ventilation fans and leaks from windows and doors of the building, it was determined that implementing deodorizing equipment for exhaust was difficult. Therefore, we considered methods to reduce the overall odor level within the factory. ●Step 2: Introduction of Deodorizing Equipment We installed fans with space spray nozzles near processes where odors are likely to occur, implementing a method to spray deodorants into the factory space. To ensure that the spray mist does not reach the ground, we selected a fine mist produced by a two-fluid nozzle. Additionally, by controlling the system to spray automatically only during operation, we were able to reduce running costs. This method successfully reduced odors throughout the building and minimized the dispersion distance of the odors. Furthermore, since we also achieved a cooling effect within the factory, our customers were very satisfied. ●Model Used: Deodorant Microgel C-TK Microgel C-TK is used as a countermeasure against phenolic odors.
