The wastewater treatment process for plating involves the addition of alkaline agents such as caustic soda to wastewater containing metal ions, cyanide, chromium, and salts to separate the metals. Carbonates or sulfides may also be used as precipitating agents. Toxic anions are decomposed through oxidation or reduction.
