Gold plating can be done in alkaline, neutral, acidic, and sulfite baths, with various types of plating baths selected according to their applications. Gold plating is characterized by its excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, solderability, and minimal changes in contact resistance over time. Therefore, it is widely used in decorative items and electronic components. When using gold plating for contacts, the issue often arises not from the corrosion of the gold plating itself, but from contamination of the surface or deterioration of the surface condition due to the corrosion of the underlying metal. In such cases, metals similar in properties to gold, such as palladium, are plated onto the underlying metal.
