Powell lenses made by Laserline Optics Canada, transforming laser beams into a uniform intensity linear shape. Standard products with various fan angles.
The shape of the Powell lens resembles a cylindrical prism with a rounded roof, but this lens functions as a so-called laser line generator, used to extend a laser beam into a straight shape with uniform intensity. ◆ Product Specifications Overview ◆ - Dimensions: Please refer to the drawings of each lens for detailed dimensions. - Beam line uniformity: Maximum variation of 30% in the central part of the generated beam line length (over 80% of the total). - Beam line intensity: 80% ±5% in the central part of the generated beam line length (over 80% of the total). - Fan angle: ±3%, please refer to the drawings for detailed tolerances. - Bore sight: <4mrad - Line straightness: <0.1% deviation in the central part of the generated beam line length (over 80% of the total). - Substrate material: N-BK7 or S-TIH6, compliant with RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC. - Coating: None. basic information
The Powell lens outperforms conventional cylindrical lenses as a line generator. Cylindrical lenses can only produce an incomplete beam line that is limited by an uneven Gaussian beam. On the other hand, the rounded roof of the Powell lens serves as a complex two-dimensional aspheric curve that redistributes the beam along its line to generate spherical aberration. This allows for an increase in intensity at both ends of the generated beam line while reducing intensity in the center. As a result, it enables the generation of a very uniform beam line that can be utilized in various scenarios of machine vision applications. Since its manufacturing began in 1994, over 150,000 units have been shipped, and it is used in various markets ranging from food quality control to biomedical and automotive assembly.
