The smart motor is a DC brushless servo motor with an integrated controller and driver, designed specifically for reduced wiring. In a configuration with PLC, driver, and motor across three axes, 13 cables are required, but using the smart motor reduces this to just three. By combining a dedicated cable for multi-axis control (CANOpen) with the power cable, only one cable exits from the motor with the integrated controller. With the CANOpen Master function, wiring and space can be minimized. When a malfunction occurs in the equipment, failures in the PLC or driver can be quickly identified, but investigating the cables is the most challenging part.
